G.T.V. Edelweiss - Reading is a section within a larger organization, the
Reading
Liederkranz which is a non-profit group. That does not mean that we do not have
expenses. We request monetary consideration for our performances, which we use
toward props, sound equipment, and other
expenses of maintaining a performance
group. The amount of money we request depends on the type of event, the number
of dancers who will be performing, the duration of the event and the distance we
must travel. Our dancers are not paid, and they are all volunteers. It is
important to us that we have fun at an event. Our presence in costume will add
color and excitement to the event. We appreciate it when you provide food
and/or beverages as part of our recompense for attending your event.

Our dancing is very strenuous, especially for the men. For that reason, we generally dance no longer than 30 minutes at a time. We prefer our sets to be 20 minutes in length with 2 to 3 sets per event. More and longer sets can be arranged, please specify this when inquiring about a performance. We intersperse our performances with discussions of our costume, history of the dance. To enhance our performance, we may bring a number of props and our sound system. Several of our dances depict occupations typical to Tyrol in the 1800s, like Wood chopping. Blacksmith and Mining, and we have props (axes, anvils and lanterns, for example) appropriate to those occupations. These are some of our most entertaining dances, but are not appropriate for some venues. We would appreciate it if you could provide easy access parking for those bringing props and a staging area for us to get our group and props ready for the performance. It is also nice to have plenty of Cold Drinking water. (We get hot and thirsty!)
